The second night's Franz Ferdinand gig was the one I had been most looking forward to. After some trouble with the security guards (not believing my friends were eighteen), I went into the venue alone to try and meet the friend with whom I'd attended the previous gig. I found her at the barrier, and thankfully was able to slip through the crowd and secure a place next to her directly in front of Alex.

Well, to begin with, I missed openers Bricolage due to the girl with my ticket having her flight cancelled. This is actually the second time I've missed out on seeing Bricolage (though I did briefly meet the singer later that night at a taxi stand), so sadly I can't write a review on their performance, but I can wonder if I've somehow been cursed never to see them.

On Sunday night, I saw - finally - a band who I've been waiting to see for two years now. And while the promoter had done a pisspoor job (I'm not kidding - the audience never went higher than seven people in a 120-capacity venue), it was one of the best shows I've ever been to. I wish Autons could play Brighton every weekend.

Much like the experience Nicole had, I was undecided about going to see Camera Obscura until the very last minute, when I had the sudden, desperate urge to go down to Brighton and enjoy some twee Scottish pop (with support from twee Sheffield folk-pop). I was somewhat surprised that the show hadn't sold out; as my companion informed me, the week the tickets were available for sale, they were advertised as "selling fast" - and apparently never did. Still, that was my gain as I successfully acquired one a mere three days prior to the gig.

After a cursory ID check, my companion and I made our way to the stage. Some girls had already camped out in the middle, roughly where Tracyanne would later stand, so we sat down on the floor to the right and discussed linguistics for some reason. Hey, it passed the time.

Oh, to be young again. Or rather, oh, to be young and never have experienced the first wave of rave. Not that rave was a bad thing. Way back in the '90s, it was exciting to cram into a warehouse with thousands of strangers, flip candy and spread the PLUR. Nu Rave (or whatever it's called) isn't exactly like that, and even though Klaxons say they want nothing to do with the "nu" genre, it didn't stop a bunch of 16 and 17-year olds from getting to the Bowery before doors and then parking in front of the stage, waving glowsticks around without the slightest air of irony.
